Pacific Crest Trail 2013

I first hiked the Pacific Crest Trail over the course of 1994 and 1996, then I hiked the whole thing in one go in 2013. During the latter hike I kept this website updated as I progressed up the trail. I still have about 45 hours of video to edit, but in the meantime there is a lot for you to look at here. Over the course of the 168 days I wrote 138,734 words and put 13,644 photos on this website.

Was hoping to camp on top of Pinchot Pass like I did in 1996, but that didn't happen.

Today was one of those days where I was phoning in the hike. Overslept and didn't get onto the trail until after 9am. Waited a bit in camp for my phone to charge.

Since I was able to update my podcasts in Independence, I finally was able to listen to the John Fogerty WTF (wtfpod.com) interview....it was really good.

Got to the top of Glen Pass around 11:00am. I had packed a few liters of water to the top so I could make coffee and breakfast. Saw the space where I camped in 1996. The lightning rod is gone now.

I spent about 90 minutes up there. Met a few southbound JMT hikers. Tower and his son (and his friend) came up the trail as I was packing up.

The scenery was really nice today, but I couldn't get into it. I was really tired and just plodding along. I think it had to do with not eating dinner last night and then oversleeping.

Getting up at 5am and hiking 10 miles and stopping for the day is much much easier than trying to hike 10 miles after 11am. Today was a struggle. I did listen to a Best Show on WFMU from a couple weeks ago, so that helped.

Got to Woods Creek bridge about 5pm. It is this suspension bridge and I think it might be the only one on the entire PCT. Made dinner and moved on. Well, I made it 1/4 mile an had to stop and take photos since I hit the 800 mile mark.

There were a few creek crossings today where I had to take off my shoes and put on flip flops. I actually didn't mind it since it forced me to take a break.

Moved a few miles up towards Pinchot Pass and camped in the woods. Looks like I will be doing coffee and breakfast on the pass tomorrow. That will make me three for three then when it comes to breakfasts on passes.
