I first hiked the Pacific Crest Trail over the course of 1994 and 1996, then I hiked the whole thing in one go in 2013. During the latter hike I kept this website updated as I progressed up the trail. I still have about 45 hours of video to edit, but in the meantime there is a lot for you to look at here. Over the course of the 168 days I wrote 138,734 words and put 13,644 photos on this website.
100 days on the trail as of today. It was also a very easy 21 miles.
Got up early and went to the coffee shop. The fact that they had good coffee and wifi won out over the fact that they didn't have any breakfast-breakfast type items.
Got the blog updated and fixed a bug with the photo popups. I had to leave the server rebuilding all the images so hopefully the site isn't hosed as you are reading this.
A few locals were in there so I got caught up on some of the town gossip. Went to the PO afterwards and mailed off the Questlove book and some clothing items I didn't need. Must have dropped my pack weight 2-3 pounds.
Got back to the B & B and six of us left to go back up to the trail. I got to ride in the back of the pickup so I could take some clock photos and whatnot.
I had grabbed the leftover beers from the fridge beforehand, so we all had a beer at the top of the pass, at 10:30am on a Thursday.
The hike was pretty fast today since the trail was pretty flat overall. Just nice minor ups and downs, winding its way through the tops of several deep valleys and such.
Stopped at a creek around 10 miles in and made dinner. Cora had thrown a New York Observer in my last resupply box so I was reading it. People always ask what it is since the pages are slightly yellowed. The only reason we even receive it at the house in Portland is because I had airline miles to use and the only thing I could get was a magazine/newspaper subscription.
The next 10 miles were about the same. I hiked with Dora the Explorer for a bit and we got to talk about a lot of random things. The sun went down and we had to headlamp the last little bit into camp where everyone else is.
I'm out of water at the moment, but the next trailside spring is less than a mile away. This is only a concern at the moment since I can't eat all my salty junk food, otherwise I would get thirsty.
It is 35 miles to the town of Seiad Valley. I should be able to pull this off ok because the trail is mostly flat and then a very long gradual downhill. The last six miles are on a gravel (then paved) road. This is the longest stretch of PCT that is still on a road.
Ok, time for bed.
